MINERS DISCOVER SPIES AT ELVIS THEATRE

Article by
Agata Miodonski

You are getting sleepy. .. very sleepy... your eyelids are so heavy..." No, this isn't one of your morning classes - its an amazing hypnosis show. Golden's own spellbinding Cody Horton puts on a comedy hypnosis show every Saturday evening, at [Street & Street] in the [John Doe Theatre].

She recently put on a show that was attended by a group of about a dozen Mines students.

Horton grit about eight people from the audience, three of whom were from Mines to go up on stage to entertain the rest of the audience.

"Some of the things she had them do were outrageous," Faisal Hashem said. "She had one young man from CU believing he was an exotic female dancer and to show the men in the audience what he could do. Naturally, he picked a Mines student, me, to show his stuff. He gave me a lapdance!"

Another thing Horton did was to convince her group that they were secret agents. They received calls on their shore phones from headquarters telling them there were spies in the audience and that their mission was to identify these spies. "The funniest thing to me was that some of her secret agents took their shoe off to answer the phone, while others just put their feet to their ears. It was hilarious!" laughed Hashem.

Horton made her group into musicians, tango dancers, and boxers. Faisal Hashem recalled, "there was one scene where she told them that the person next to them had an awful smell. They were making faces that were unbelievable! Then she told them the guy next to them had an exotic smell. One guy - he must have been incredibly impressionable - was literally on top of the guy next to him, sniffing away."

At another point in the show, Horton made her hypnotized entertainers think thev were Martian delegates who came to Earth to talk to the audience, the greeting scientists. Mike Thornbrue was their Martian translator, speaking to the audience in his "native" tongue. "I never knew Martian had so many z's!" Hashem explained to Thornbrue, who remembered none of this. "Thank You very much" is "Zazu," and "Please have a seat," is "Baka, baka, baka."

"It's a good place to take a date," said Keith Crowe. "My date, Meredith Dzwilewski, really enjoyed it-" They all agreed that I Horton undercharges. "Go as a group or take a date. You can't beat this kind of show for $7," said Hashem.

Aside from her amazing and hilarious show, Cody Horton is also a hypnotherapist who lives in Golden and can help you with your study habits, relaxation before exams, as well as other issues.
